Buffalo Check

I may be a little bit late to the Buffalo Check party, but I’ll be making up for lost time for sure!  As soon as I saw the Buffalo Check background stamp in the 2018 Holiday Catalog, I knew I had to have it!  But since I was pacing my budget with the trip to Orlando, FL for OnStage, I didn’t get it right away.    My order arrived a few days before Thanksgiving but today was the first day I could actually ink that stamp up and use it.  This is the first card I made with it:   Buffalo Check Christmas Plaid

I used Black Momento ink on Whisper White cardstock to stamp the Buffalo Check image.    If you subscribe to my mailing list, you’ll be able to download my free report ““The 8 Essential Tools Every Paper Crafter MUST have to be Successful” .  #2 is a clear flexible ruler.  I used this ruler and my Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Write marker to draw lines between the checks to create more of a ‘plaid’ than Buffalo Check.  I really love the way it turned out.

I used the Country Home stamp set to stamp the milk can and colored it using the Basic Gray Stampin’ Blends markers.  I added hi-lights with the Stampin’ Blends Color Lifter.  (You can get this FREE from me; see below.)    Then I cropped some pine needles from Old Olive cardstock, a berry spring in gold foil sheets, and leaves in Vellum.  I stamped the candy canes in Cherry Cobbler ink and fussy cut them out. I stamped the sentiment from the Winter Woods stamp set onto a scrap of Whisper White and fussy cut that out as well.

Every where I look, I see Buffalo Check patterns, from clothing to housewares, to Christmas decor.  It’s so on trend.  I love that Stampin’ Up! offers us products that are so trendy.  I stamped several pieces of cardstock, in different colors, so I plan on making lots of cards with Buffalo Check backgrounds!  Follow my Facebook page to see them all.

A Special “50” Gift

Recently friends of mine celebrated their 50th Anniversary!  Yes, that is wonderful!  Not only did God bless them with a wonderful marriage, but also with a wonderful family.  I am also proud to call their daughters my friends as well.  And 2 of the 3 daughters are my fellow stampers too!  All 3 children and their spouses, and their children, threw them a big party to celebrate!  Here’s the happy couple:And I made this gift card holder card to give them.

The gift card holder was made from the now retired Springtime Foil DSP. (I stocked up on this gorgeous paper before it retired!  I hope you did too!)  A belly band of Whisper White cardstock was trimmed with gold Washi Tape and stamped/heat embossed with gold embossing powder using the sentiment from Beautiful Bouquet.  I was so happy to use the Gold Foil Sheets and my Large Numbers Framelit dies to crop the numbers which I placed over a flourish cut from Silver Glimmer paper and the Flourish thinlit dies.

Here’s a look at the inside:A gift certificate to a local restaurant was tucked inside.  The envelope punch board made it simple to add that ‘file folder’ tab-edge to the inside.

Paper Pumpkin to the Rescue!

Today was the first day that I was back in My Stampin’ Space since Jenn passed away.  Even though a new box of goodies arrived about 2 weeks ago, I just seemed to have lost my desire to stamp, to create, to do much of anything.  But I knew I needed to get back to a normal routine again, and that meant getting a class schedule posted, check, and getting my projects for those classes.  Today was the day to make those projects!

Since I really felt blah, with no particular plan in mind, other than to use my new Color Your Season bundle that just came in, I thought the best place to start would be with a Paper Pumpkin kit.  My July kit came in the mail and was just sitting there unopened.  So I opened it up, and made those cute little baskets and the coordinating tags & cards.  I have to say that the kit was the best place to start!  I didn’t need to ‘create’ anything!  I just needed to follow the included directions and I was able to make some really cute gifts that are headed for my co-workers.  Paper Pumpkin to the rescue!  Take a look at this:

See, I told you!  They are really cute aren’t they?  Totally what I needed to get me back into the crafting groove again.

Do you subscribe to Paper Pumpkin?  I totally recommend it for when you are in a crafting rut like I was, or even if you just like to make something different each month.  The Paper Pumpkin kits are a great deal.  $19.95 per month including shipping and a complete craft kit comes to your doorstep each month.  You can sign up on a monthly subscription basis where you receive a kit each month and when its’ ready to ship, the credit card on file gets billed.  You can skip a month, or change ship to address, at any time as long as the change is made by the 10th of the month.  Click here to Subscribe to Paper Pumpkin.

You can even give Paper Pumpkin a test drive by buying a prepaid 1, 3, 6 or 12 month subscription.  This option even allows for you to ‘gift’ the said number of Paper Pumpkin kits to a loved one.  Click here to purchase a prepaid subscription.

Bonus!

If  you’ve never tried Paper Pumpkin before, you’re in luck!  Blooming Summer Savings 50% off Paper PumpkinSign up here to try Paper Pumpkin for the first time, and save 50% off your first month (August 2018) when you use Promo Code BLOOM0818.  For only $10, you really have nothing to lose.  As a Paper Pumpkin subscriber, you are also eligible to purchase past kits and or refill kits.  Click here to see previous kits.

Paper Pumpkin was just what I needed today, and I’m sure that Paper Pumpkin will be just what YOU need too!  When that little red box gets delivered to your mailbox, you too will say “Paper Pumpkin to the rescue!”.

So subscribe to Paper Pumpkin now so you can get the August 2018 kit at half price.  For $10 you really owe it to yourself to give it a try!

Come back tomorrow to see what I made when I pulled out my Blended Season stamp set, and the coordinating Stitched Season framelits.  I was able to design a card, choose a color scheme and get to work on making it.  I know you’ll want to see that too.

But first,  make sure you don’t miss out on the August Paper Pumkin kit; subscribe here and use Promo Code BLOOM0818.

Pop Paradise Pineapples

I am still saying good-bye to some of my  beloved stamps and such that will be retiring at the end of this month to make way for some new and exciting products in the new catalog to be released June 1st.

For my class earlier this week, I pulled out Pop of Paradise and some of the retiring 2016-28 InColors.  As I was stamping these playful pineapples, I wondered why it’s been so long since I inked up these stamps.  So much fun!

The retiring 2016-18 In Colors colors of Peekaboo Peach, Sweet Sugarplum and Flirty Flamingo*, it seemed like a match made in heaven for this stamp set.  Just look at this adorable card:Pop of Paradise PineappleStampin’ Write markers were used to color in each of the pineapples.  The sentiment is from Thoughtful Banners.

Such a cute card in fun, playful colors!  A perfect send-off for this lovely stamp  set.  Get yours before it’s gone.  Pop of Paradise

Retiring products

Click here to shop the retiring items.  NEW!  Many items on the Retiring List are now on sale.  Shop now before they’re gone.  Please remember to use HOST CODE 9UBBQ3MG when you place an online order less than $150.  If your order is $150 or more (before tax & shipping) do NOT use the host code but rather redeem the host rewards for yourself.

Thanks

Heartfelt Thanks deserve Heartfelt Blooms

This week, someone went out of their way to help me in such a tremendous way and I really wanted to express my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to this gentlemen.  What better way to say ‘thanks‘ than with a handmade card.  And what better way to deliver heartfelt thanks than by using the “Heartfelt Blooms” stamp set.

Heartfelt Thanks to FMS, too!

This sketch by Freshly Made Sketches was the perfect starting point for my card.Freshly Made Sketches #329That large circle shape just begged to be filled with the awesome Heartfelt Blooms stamp.   This is what I came up with:

Heartfelt Thanks using Heartfelt Blooms

I am pleased with the way this card turned out.  You can visit the FMS blog to be inspired with how others interpreted this sketch.

I started with a rectangle of whisper white and stamped the floral image in Bermuda Bay ink in the lower left corner.  I used Dapper Denim ink to stamp the sentiment (also from the Heartfelt Bloom stamp set).Heartfelt BloomsNext I layered this panel with a rectangle of Bermuda Bay card stock and wrapped it with Bermuda Bay ribbon.  I had some of my favorite 1/4″ white cotton ribbon (retired) that I layered over the ribbon to tone it down a bit.  A few of the  Tutti-Frutti adhesive backed sequins in Pool Party were added for a bit of embellishment.  Then that whole layer was adhered using Stampin’ Dimensionals onto a Dapper Denim card base.   Quick and Easy!  But the end result makes it look like I spent a lot of time on this card, thanks to the awesome Heartfelt Bloom stamp set.

Sale-A-Bration

You can get the Heartfelt Blooms stamp set for Free with a qualifying purchase during Sale-A-Bration but you have to hurry.  Sale-A-Bration ends next week on March 31st and this stamp will not be returning.

Did you ever do anything COMPLETELY Different than planned?

Did you ever do anything COMPLETELY Different than you planned?  I did! GDP130When I saw this sketch challenge from Global Design Project, I immediately envisioned using the Beautiful Peacock stamp in the focal point, and using the beautiful bright blues & greens & golds of a real peacock.  What I ended up with isn’t even remotely close!  No peacock in sight!  Nancy Gleason GDP#130 entryDoes that ever happen to you?  I just didn’t like the way the peacock had to be cropped to fit in the circle, so I just scrapped that idea entirely and went in a different direction, and boy I’m sure glad I did!  I really like the way this card turned out. (Confession:  I ultimately wound up using a larger punch than I was planning and the peacock may have fit much better in the larger 2-1/2″ circle.  But don’t tell the Peacock!).

Anyway, this card gave me opportunity to break out my sponge brayers that have been sitting idle and feeling lonely lately.  I just love to color, whether with colored pencils, crayons, Stampin’ Blends, and coloring the background with a brayer is just joyful to me.  A sponge brayer, an ink pad and the Springtime Foils Specialty DSP created the layer immediately behind the focal point. The metallic dots resist the ink so when you color the paper, the metallic print isn’t affected!  I like the way the Rose Gold metallic looks against Rich Razzleberry.  A piece of Crumb Cake cardstock behind this gives balance and contrast to this busy layer, and the Rich Razzleberry card base ties it all together.

Take a closer look at the sponged Springtime Foils Specialty DSP:Sponge Brayered Springtime Foils DSPThe focal point circle was stamped on top of the sunburst image in Sahara Sand ink twice to create a circle.  Then I stamped the floral image in Versamark ink and heat embossed using gold embossing powder.  Look closely:Gold Embossed floral from Amazing You stamp set

Next up I colored the flower using Rich Razzleberry ink and my aqua painter.  I layered the ink on very lightly and built it up a layer at a time.    Another scrap of Crumb Cake cardstock provided me with just the right thing for my sentiment layer.  I stamped the border & Congratulations from “Happy Birthday Gorgeous” in Rich Razzleberry ink and enlisted the help of my snips to crop out that shape.

Although there are a lot of elements and layers, this card came together fairly quickly.  I’m hoping the folks over at the GDP like it, and I hope you like it too! Why don’t you head over the Global Design Project and see what others have come up with using this sketch.  But before you leave, please take a moment and leave me a comment to tell me what you think of my card, and if you ever completely changed directions when you sat down to create a card, or any other craft project.  If you need any of the products listed here, please click here to shop now.  Remember the Sale-A-Bration items are Free with a qualifying purchase ($50 or $100 before tax and shipping).   There is NO LIMIT on how many FREE Sale-A-Bration items you can earn.  Sweet, right?  But there is a TIME LIMIT – it all goes away on March 31st!  So place your qualifying order and get your favorite Sale-A-Bration items before they’re gone!
