Thank you cards.

What happened when The King called me?

I recently got a phone call from the King.  Yes, The King!  No, not Elvis.  Royalty.  Stamping Royalty. The King of Stampin’ Up!  Let me explain:

As many of you know, we lost our oldest daughter this past July.   I immediately ordered the “Kindness & Compassion” stamp set knowing it would be perfect to make thank you cards for all the folks who were covering us with love & prayers and many acts of kindness in the days and weeks that followed.

Stampin' Up! "Kindness & Compassion" stamp set #146729

The problem was that every time I sat down to try to make cards with that stamp set, I just went blank.  I just couldn’t bring myself to actually make anything.   Not one card.  Maybe it was just overwhelming but I felt like I just couldn’t do it.

Then one day I was surfing thru the websites of several of my fellow Stampin’ Up! Pals and came across this post from Brian King, the King of Stampin’ UP!  (That is his official title, isn’t it?  Well, that’s what I call him!)  Brian made a beautiful set of cards and a lovely box using the Kindness & Compassion stamp set.  It was just what I needed!  I left a comment for Brian that this was just the inspiration I needed to dust off my stamp set and make some much overdue cards.   A short time later, my phone rang.  It was Brian King, calling me!  I was so honored I stopped what I was doing (I was teaching a class, actually) to answer the call.  Brian was not aware that my daughter had passed away, but he asked me for my address so he could send that beautiful box full of cards to me!  Can you imagine that?  I was so humbled and honored!

A few days later, a package arrived from Brian with that beautiful box of cards just as promised.  Not only is Brian extremely talented but he is also a man of his word!  And it was just exactly what I need to kickstart my own card-making again.  I’ve used his layout to make several cards of my own and it seemed to have broken the slump I was in.  Like good medicine!

Thank you Brian, for your gift, for your caring and your friendship. “Thank You” doesn’t begin to convey the depth of gratitude for what your simple act of caring means to me. I am looking forward to meeting you face to face in Orlando in 2 weeks.

Let’s take a look at Brian’s gift to me.  Gift Box Brian King Kindness&Compassion

Isn’t this box beautiful?  It’s made with Gray Granite cardstock and Joyous Noel Specialty DSP tied up with a beautiful Merry Merlot & Copper Reversible Ribbon.

The top opens to reveal several cards and envelopes inside.  Here is the trio of cards made from the same Joyeous Noel DSP.  Brian just let the simple elegance of that DSP form the backdrop to let the sentiments speak volumes.

Here are some of the cards I made using Brian’s layout.Hearthelt Blooms for sympathy

Now with all these cards ready and waiting to be addressed and mailed, I must start getting my notes written and mailed.

Thanks for letting me share my story, and my gift, and my road to getting my stampin’ mojo back!  One of the best things about my Stampin’ Up! gig is the virtual community of fellow stampers and the friendship and encouragement we share.  If you would like to experience this type of fellowship for yourself, I hope you’ll consider joining with me by purchasing the $99 Starter Kit,  it may just lead you to far-reaching friendships too!

I love hearing from you. If you have something to say about today’s post, please, COMMENT HERE.

Heartfelt Thanks deserve Heartfelt Blooms

This week, someone went out of their way to help me in such a tremendous way and I really wanted to express my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to this gentlemen.  What better way to say ‘thanks‘ than with a handmade card.  And what better way to deliver heartfelt thanks than by using the “Heartfelt Blooms” stamp set.

Heartfelt Thanks to FMS, too!

This sketch by Freshly Made Sketches was the perfect starting point for my card.Freshly Made Sketches #329That large circle shape just begged to be filled with the awesome Heartfelt Blooms stamp.   This is what I came up with:

Heartfelt Thanks using Heartfelt Blooms

I am pleased with the way this card turned out.  You can visit the FMS blog to be inspired with how others interpreted this sketch.

I started with a rectangle of whisper white and stamped the floral image in Bermuda Bay ink in the lower left corner.  I used Dapper Denim ink to stamp the sentiment (also from the Heartfelt Bloom stamp set).Heartfelt BloomsNext I layered this panel with a rectangle of Bermuda Bay card stock and wrapped it with Bermuda Bay ribbon.  I had some of my favorite 1/4″ white cotton ribbon (retired) that I layered over the ribbon to tone it down a bit.  A few of the  Tutti-Frutti adhesive backed sequins in Pool Party were added for a bit of embellishment.  Then that whole layer was adhered using Stampin’ Dimensionals onto a Dapper Denim card base.   Quick and Easy!  But the end result makes it look like I spent a lot of time on this card, thanks to the awesome Heartfelt Bloom stamp set.

Lots of Lavender

Lots of Lavender is a new stamp set that you can earn for FREE as a Level 1 Reward during Sale-A-Bration. What is Sale-A-Bration?  And How can YOU get this stamp set for free?  I’m glad you asked!  Click here to know everything you ever wanted to know about Sale-A-Bration.

Now that you know what Sale-A-Bration is, you’ll want to add Lots of Lavender to the top of your must have list.

I needed to make some Thank You cards and Birthday cards and thought this would be a good image to use for either.  I wanted to experiment using this 2-step stamp set so I started out by stamping on a scrap of Whisper White cardstock using the lavender image with Versamark ink and then heat embossing with Gold Embossing Powder.  I used my Blender Pen to fill in color from my ink pads using Pear Pizzaz, Perfect Plum and Pool Party.  I was so pleased with this, that I knew I had to make this focal point of a card!  I quickly layered this piece onto coordinating Perfect Plum cardstock.  Lightbulb moment!  I just knew the sketch from the Freshly Made Sketch challenge was JUST PERFECT for this image.  I quickly whipped out some Washi Tape in Perfect Plum (retired)  and I had a perfect sketch challenge entry.

Since I need to make some birthday cards and thank you cards so I decided to add a sentiment, and here is my final result:

Lots of Lavendar, Happy Birthday, Nancy Gleason, My Stampin Space, Rose Wonder, Sale-A-Bration 2018, floral, gold embossing, blender pen, washi tape

Here is the 2nd card I made.  There’s just a subtle difference with the sentiments, but which do you like better?

Lots of Lavendar, Happy Birthday, Nancy Gleason, My Stampin Space, Beautiful Bouquet, Sale-A-Bration 2018, floral, gold embossing, blender pen, washi tape

Take a look at the sketch that was my inspiration for this card:

Freshly Made Sketch Challenge

You can view the Freshly Made Sketches line up here.

Here’s an up-close of the water-coloring technique I did with the floral design.

So simple with the Blender Pens yet it has such a “WOW” factor!  I strongly encourage you to get Blender Pens if you haven’t tried them yet.  They are also a good stepping stone to using the Stampin’ Blends markers too.  If you love coloring, the Blender Pens and Stampin’ Blends will transport you to coloring heaven!  Both are so easy and fun to use but give different results.

You can earn the Lots of Lavender as a Level 1 Sale-A-Bration FREE item (with a qualifying $50 purchase before tax & shipping).  Be sure that you place your orders in $50 increments so can earn a FREE item.  You can shop on line here.

New Hues Review: 28 projects to get your creative juices flowing!

Welcome to the July Pals Blog Hop. This month we are featuring a New Hues Review. Let the new Stampin’ Up! In Colors for 2014-16 inspire you – With 28 bloggers participating, we hope you will find great inspiration from our creations!  Let me start by introducing the new colors to you:  Blackberry Bliss, Lost Lagoon, Mossy Meadow, Hello Honey, and Tangelo Twist.

color collections

You may just be starting the blog hop or may have come from Nicole Watt at Pixel Maven’s Retreat on the Pals Hop. If you get off track at any time, the full lineup below will help you move along from blog to blog so you see all of the amazing creations.

When the new 2014-2016 In-Colors were introduced, I immediately fell in love with Blackberry Bliss.   Paired with Hello, Honey, it became a color combination I reached for over & over again (thanks in part to the new Moonlight DSP Paper stack).

IMG_3452[1] IMG_3453-002

See what I mean about this color combination? And the Moonlight DSP?  Don’t you just love the Blackberry Bliss ribbon as much as I do?  I used the new “Work of Art” stamp set for these cards.

While I really was getting mileage out of these two colors, I had somewhat neglected the other colors.   So I created the next card purposefully to expand my horizons and reach for other colors.  I used Hello, Honey, Tangelo Twist and Lost Lagoon in this card. Ok, so maybe I didn’t reach too far because it still uses Hello Honey as a primary color but at least I did resist the urge to pair it with Blackberry Bliss!   Instead I choose Tangelo Twist with an accent of Lost Lagoon. IMG_3526

This card features heat embossing and emboss resist as well as a watercoloring  technique.  It uses the new “Bloom with Hope” hostess stamp set.  The sentiment comes from “A Dozen Thoughts”.  The flower was heat embossed using Versamark ink and White embossing powder.  My aqua painters were used to create the watercolored background and to color the flower.  The ribbon is Lost Lagoon and I have to tell you how much I love this new 3/8″ Stitched Satin In-Color ribbon;  I have already used an entire roll of Blackberry Bliss Ribbon and Hello Honey Ribbon!  That’s alot of ribbon!  But thank goodness, I can still buy more – oh, don’t worry!   I already have.  I’m on my second roll of each of those colors!

Please let me know what you like about my projects and don’t forget to tell me which of the new colors is your favorite color!   Thanks for stopping by My Stampin’ Space today.  If you want to order these products, or any others, please stop by my on-line and shop securely.   Just click on any hi-lighted item above or click on any item in the table below.  Thanks!

Sometimes I just don’t play well with others!

Well, this past Thursday was another Pals Paper Arts challenge.  Being a Pal, I have privvy to the sketch & color challenges so give me time to get my entry ready to go.

So I took a look at the color challenge real quick the week before and spent a couple days mulling over the colors in my mind trying to think of what I could make with those colors.  “Rich Razzleberry, Calypso Coral & Crumb Cake weren’t necessary colors I’d put together on my own, so this could be, well, a challenge”,  I thought.  That’s why they call it a Color Challenge!  So I went into My Stampin’ Space, pulled out these colors, and my new “Oh Hello” stamp set and went to work. PPA154

I was so proud of the way this card turned out, all I could say was “Thanks, Pals for putting together  color combo I never would have used on my own.”  Then I proceeded to get my blog post ready to go so I could go live Thursday morning and realized:

Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge # 154

It was supposed to be Raspberry Ripple; not Rich Razzleberry!  DUH!!!  Really?  I had the wrong color combo!  I was so upset with myself that I cancelled my plans to post that card and go back to the drawing board.

Now I could have just recreated that card with the correct color, but the more I looked it, the more I liked it!  So I decided, right or wrong, I was going with my original card.    So this morning I woke up and decided I would post that card anyway.

Please leave me a comment and let me know how YOU like my card!  If you’d like to know how I made this, just ask and I’ll be happy to tell you.  Don’t forget that you can order this “Oh Hello” stamp set, or any other products from my secure online store just by clicking here.  Thanks for stopping by My Stampin’ Space!  Come back again, and Happy Stampin’

Thank You, Eleanor

Thank you Eleanor

When the annual catalog for 2012 was released last June, one of the first stamp sets to make it to the top of my ‘must-have’ list was Everything Eleanor.  The swirl/flourish image, the vintage background image, the pretty flowers & bird, the bordered circle image (just right for journaling in a scrapbook), all called my name.  But for some reason, it is one of my most under-used stamp sets too!  I set out to change that this weekend.  With a boatload of thank-you cards that I need to make and send out, this was the first set I turned to, even though it doesn’t have a thank-you sentiment in the set.  For that, I enlisted the help of a new friend, Pretty Petites which I got for FREE from the current Sale-A-Bration catalog along with the coordinating Petite Curly Label Punch which I also got for FREE during Sale-A-Bration.  And they coordinate with the Curly Label Punch for layered goodness.  A simple piece of ribbon and a pearl for finishing touches and I’m all done. My color combination was a monochromatic look starting with Very Vanilla cardstock, Sahara Sand ink for the background swirl, Soft Suede ink to stamp the worn background image and Early Espresso cardstock and ink for the Thank You sentiment.

The items I used are featured below or you can click on the hyperlink above and go straight to my online store and order these products for yourself.   Everything Eleanor Clear-Mount Stamp Set

PPA150

PPA150 Color Challenge

The first color challenge of the new year was just what I needed to get me back in the saddle again!  I realized that I haven’t stamped, or posted anything on my blog for over 6 weeks until just the other day.  I NEEDED to get back to stamping to get my sanity back.  Stamping is therapy!    I love the color combination that our pals came up with.

So here is my entry:  I hope you like it.

PPA150

I used Melon Mambo embossing powder to emboss the flower image and sentiment.

I thought the flower needed a little bling so I added a center from Silver Glimmer paper topped with a jumbo pearl which I colored black.

Thanks for stopping into My  Stampin’ Space.  Come back again, or better yet, sign-up to receive my newsletter or subscribe to my RSS Feedburner Feed so you’ll never miss a post!

Happy Stampin’
