Let It Shine!

Metallic accents add so much class and bling to any project – I say “Let it Shine!” One of favorites from the new 2019 Stampin’ UP! catalog is the Wrapped in Plaid Specialty Designer Series Paper. What makes it special is the gold foil accents in the paper. And nothing says Christmas to me like plaid – win/win! Let’s take a look”

Between the plaid paper and the plaid Christmas Tree stamp from the Perfectly Plaid stamp set, I’m in Christmas plaid Heaven! And the metallic gold foil accents of the DSP repeat the gold in the Shaded Spruce/Gold Striped Ribbon. The main focal point is a Christmas tree cropped from a sheet of gold foil and the sentiment is embossed with Gold Embossing powder.

The Paper Players Challenge

I’m not the only one who is liking all these metallic accents – the Paper Players like them too as is evident by this weeks challenge which is all about Marvelous Metallics.

You call see all the submissions for the Paper Players Challenge here.

I love that I could use 3 different metallics (Gold Foil, gold foil accents in the DSP and gold embossing powder) on 1 project and have perfect coordination! The product coordination is what hooked me on Stampin’ Up! many years ago and I’m still hooked! The stamps and punches are perfectly coordinated to crop out those trees. The plaids coordinate and so do the colors.

My trusty paper snips made easy work of cropping out Christmas Cheer from the sentiment after heat embossing it with gold embossing powder.

Meet Lenny!

My husband and I just returned from a vacation in Maine. It was absolutely wonderful! Maine was everything I had hoped for and more! I’ve never been there but I’m sure I will go back. It was so beautiful. And I ate so much good food – yes I had my first lobster roll, delicious! And blueberry pie and blueberry pancakes. I even brought home wild Maine blueberries and made a pie. I shared my pie (and the recipes for both my homemade pie crust and my blueberry pie filling) on my Facebook page.

And wildlife – we went on a Whale Watching Tour! Such magnificent creatures and it’s hard to fathom the sheer size of those whales! The famous Maine wildlife that we didn’t see were moose. But I did meet Lenny! And I want to introduce him to you now too!

Lenny the Chocolate Moose

Lenny is a 1700 lb. Chocolate Moose! Yes, he is solid milk chocolate! Now that’s my kind of wild life! But I wasn’t allowed to take a nibble of him 🙁 Isn’t he adorable?

Freshly Made Sketches Challenge

Lenny was the inspiration for my card. When I saw the sketch from the folks at Freshly Made Sketches, I just knew that sketch was made for the Moose from the new Merry Moose stamp set.

Here is the sketch:

And here is my card:

I also broke out my new Birch Background stamp and just used a neutral combination of Early Espresso and Crumb Cake for my layers and just a pop of red for the scarf. An easy card to make and the sketch was perfect. But after sleeping on it, I woke up with an idea to step up the card a bit so here is my second card:

Merry Moose for FMS400

For this card I used the Woodlands Embossing Folder for the background instead of the Birch Background stamp and I made the image panel larger. I stamped a few trees in Mossy Meadow ink and this time I stamped the moose and colored him using the Stampin’ Blends markers and cropped him out with the coordinating Moose Punch. The scarf was stamped in Real Red and fussy cut with my paper snips.

So which one do you like better? The simple card or the stepped up version? Please leave me a comment and tell me what you think.

If you like the Merry Moose stamp set and Moose punch, you’ll be able to purchase them as a bundle when the Holiday Catalog goes live on Sept. 5th!

Christmas in July

Who doesn’t love Christmas? And who doesn’t love making Christmas cards? There are several really nice Christmas stamps and dies in the 2019-20 Annual Stampin’ UP! catalog for you to use right now! Who needs to wait until Christmas?

Last week, I made two Christmas cards for my Christmas in July stamp class. And I’m going to share one of those cards with you today.

Winter Woods

Pretty Peacock sets the stage for all of the white elements in this card. It provides a great contrast for the various shades of white. We start with a Whisper White card stock base. The snowy hill was created from Shimmery White Cardstock, and the rolling hill was cut from the In The Woods die. There is a line of trees in the background that were stamped very lightly with white craft ink using the Winter Woods stamp set. The focal point, that gorgeous tree, was cropped from Whisper White cardstock and the In The Woods dies. A Bone Folder was used to fold up the boughs and create dimension. Then the entire tree was spritzed with Frost White Shimmer Paint mixed with a little rubbing alcohol in a Stampin’ Spritzer. That tree was finished with a few Rhinestones. The sentiment was stamped in Pretty Peacock ink.

Let’s take a close-up look at that tree! Do you see the shimmer?

Winter Woods and In The Woods dies come together to create this Christmas tree
Winter Woods and In The Woods dies come together to create this beautiful tree with lots of dimension. Frost White Shimmer paint and Rhinestone Jewels embellish the tree to give it a beautiful shine!

This card would be very easy to recreate. I am planning on making several of these and get a jump start on my Christmas cards now, because, let’s be honest, who has lots of extra time during the holidays? Better to get a head start now, right?

Free Tutorial to Make Quick & Easy Gift Card Holders

One of my ‘go-to’ projects this time of year is a cute gift card holder.  My design is quick and easy to make:  you could knock a dozen or so in under an hour!  Seriously.  And it was designed so that you could maximize the yield from a sheet of cardstock and DSP with very little waste.  BONUS!    And if that weren’t enough, you could easily customize this for any occasion simply by changing out the color combination, DSP, and the design element/sentiment.

Quick & Easy Gift Card Holder

I was live on Facebook making this gift card holder if you’d rather see it in action.  Go to my Facebook page and look for the live video.

Buffalo Check

I may be a little bit late to the Buffalo Check party, but I’ll be making up for lost time for sure!  As soon as I saw the Buffalo Check background stamp in the 2018 Holiday Catalog, I knew I had to have it!  But since I was pacing my budget with the trip to Orlando, FL for OnStage, I didn’t get it right away.    My order arrived a few days before Thanksgiving but today was the first day I could actually ink that stamp up and use it.  This is the first card I made with it:   Buffalo Check Christmas Plaid

I used Black Momento ink on Whisper White cardstock to stamp the Buffalo Check image.    If you subscribe to my mailing list, you’ll be able to download my free report ““The 8 Essential Tools Every Paper Crafter MUST have to be Successful” .  #2 is a clear flexible ruler.  I used this ruler and my Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Write marker to draw lines between the checks to create more of a ‘plaid’ than Buffalo Check.  I really love the way it turned out.

I used the Country Home stamp set to stamp the milk can and colored it using the Basic Gray Stampin’ Blends markers.  I added hi-lights with the Stampin’ Blends Color Lifter.  (You can get this FREE from me; see below.)    Then I cropped some pine needles from Old Olive cardstock, a berry spring in gold foil sheets, and leaves in Vellum.  I stamped the candy canes in Cherry Cobbler ink and fussy cut them out. I stamped the sentiment from the Winter Woods stamp set onto a scrap of Whisper White and fussy cut that out as well.

Every where I look, I see Buffalo Check patterns, from clothing to housewares, to Christmas decor.  It’s so on trend.  I love that Stampin’ Up! offers us products that are so trendy.  I stamped several pieces of cardstock, in different colors, so I plan on making lots of cards with Buffalo Check backgrounds!  Follow my Facebook page to see them all.

I’ve been Making Christmas Bright

Hi Stampers,  I love getting a jump start on making Christmas Cards and this past week I’ve been busy making Christmas Bright, thanks to the new Making Christmas Bright stamp set and coordinating Christmas Bulb Builder Punch (Bundle and Save 10%)

I love, too, when I get more mileage out of a Christmas stamp set by using it year round, and this bundle does just that.  Now that’s what I call Making Christmas Bright!

Making Christmas Bright

I love the cheerful, rainbow of colors and the festive combination of Call Me Clover and Lovely Lipstick.  The pop of Silver Metallic gives just the right amount of bling!  A bit of Wink of Stella gives the light bulbs some added shine.  Making Christmas Bright up close light bulbsHere’s a look at the Making Christmas Bright Bundle:
Making Christmas Bright Bundle

One thing that made working with the tiny light bulb pieces a piece of cake is the new Take Your Pick tool.  After punching out multiple light bulbs from colored cardstock and light bulb bases from Silver Metallic Foil, this tool allowed me to pick up the pieces with ease and place them just where I need them to be.  I don’t think I would want to put these light bulbs together without it!  Make sure you grab a Take Your Pick Tool when you order this bundle!

The Stamparatus also made easy work of stamping the sentiment.  This is 2 stamps and getting them lined up within the circle (which I cropped out before stamping) is so easy with the stamparatus.  I love this more and more every time I use it!

I know that you want to recreate this card for yourself, and you can!  My supply list is below so that you can get the supplies you need to make this card for yourself.

Now I told you that the Making Christmas Bright stamp set can also be used year round.  I’ll be sharing two projects I made with this stamp set that aren’t Christmas in an upcoming blog post.  My mailing list subscribers will actually get to see them first!  If you aren’t on my mailing list, you can subscribe here.
I hope my project will be Making Christmas Bright for you too!
If you have any questions for me, leave them in the comments and I’ll be sure to get back to you!  I may even answer your question in an upcoming newsletter edition.

White Christmas

I’m dreaming of a White Christmas… famous song lyrics.  Go ahead, you can sing if you want to.  My project today puts a spunky twist on the song lyrics.  The stamp set “Half Full”, one of my favorite stamp sets in the 2017 Holiday Catalog, has a whimsical inside/outside sentiment that I used for this project.  Let’s take a look:

White Christmas Front using Half Full

And for the inside….. (drum roll please!)

White Christmas inside

I know you just chuckled!  I know I did when I first saw this stamp set!  And I just knew I had to have it.  I made this card with the ladies in my “Wine Down Wednesday” Stampin’ Class (of course we made wine-themed cards on Wine Down Wednesday!) and they just loved it. Half FullAnd you’ll notice that I used a strip of the Merry Music Designer Series Paper as a nod to the song lyrics… I’m dreaming of a white Christmas….  I know;  I’ve been humming this tune for several days now!

A little bit of coloring with the blender pen adds the perfect amount of color to this project.  Momento Ink is my ink of choice when filling in color with the Blender Pen.

I’ve used this stamp set in other classes; you can see those projects here and here.  This is such a versatile and fun stamp set; and if you are considering getting this stamp set, I hope you will.  It’s a lot of fun.  You can click here to go to my online store or click on any of the items below.

Swirly Snowflakes

The stamp set called “Snowflake Sentiments” and the coordinating Swirly Snowflakes Thinlits dies caught my eye the first trip thru the 2017 Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog and went straight to my ‘must have’ list.  The intricate snowflake cut out and the lacy border, along with the font style and basic greetings, were too much for me to pass up.  Add to that the fact that you can bundle & save, and I was hooked!

The Tic Tac Toe Challenge this week provided just the right excuse for me to take these out and play!  Thanks #TTTC021!  So here it is:

Swirly Snowflakes for the #TTTC021

This card is delicate and intricate; it look like you spent HOURS on this card, but the Big Shot and the dies do all the work for you!

Here’s how I made it:

The lace work behind the snowflakes was cropped from Dapper Denim card stock and the snowflakes were cropped from Whisper White  cardstock.  Both used the Swirly Snowflakes Thinlits dies.   I do recommend using the Precision Base Plate and the Big Shot Die Brush to get a good clean cut and to remove all the parts & dots.

Dapper Denim ink was used to stamp the sentiment on Soft Sky cardstock and was cropped using the Layering Oval Framelits dies.  A piece of silver Mini Tinsel Trim was added, as well as Rhinestone Jewels on the center of each snowflake.  I just love how Soft Sky and Dapper Denim pair together and the silver adds just the right touch for a silvery, snowy color combination!

I popped up the entire snowflake panels on Stampin’ Dimensionals before adding it to my Soft Sky card base.   A  few pieces of washi tape keep the Tinsel Trim in place as well.   You can see that here:

Stampin’ Dimensionals do a few things; they raise the cardstock enough to allow for the thickness of the tinsel trim to ride underneath without adding bulk to the card, and they give an added dimension to the card by having that panel raised.

Here is the Tic Tac Toe Challenge for this week:

tttc#021

I chose the Diagonal Row from the bottom left to the top right, using die cut and oval. For the free I chose to add some bling.

I knew I wanted these intricate swirly snowflake dies for the die cut and the sentiments from the Snowflake Sentiments pair so nicely with the oval framelits so my card fell together so easily and perfectly for this row.  You can see my card again here:

Swirly Snowflakes for the #TTTC021

You can see all the projects posted to the TicTacToeChallenge021 here.

Thanks for stopping by My Stampin’ Space today.  I hope you enjoyed today’s project and that you might be inspired to make some cards today.  If this post inspires you to make something with snowflakes, or the Soft Sky/Dapper Demin/Silver color combo, please let me, or better yet, send me a picture of your creation!  Leave me a comment, I love to hear from you!

Come back again soon!

Going for the Gold with the GDP!

This week the Global Design Project#109 is hosting a Color Challenge.  Here it is:

Global Design Project #109

And here is my entry:Deck the Halls for the GDP

The Carols of Christmas stamp set and Card Front Builder Framelits dies make making Christmas cards a snap! (And you can bundle and save 10%!)  The perfectly coordinating images and intricately detailed dies make it look like I’ve spent hours on this card, but it was easy enough to mass produce a lot of these cards in a short time period.  The Merry Music DSP makes for a nice background and the gold doilies add the right amount of bling with over-doing it.  (The Merry Music DSP is part of the Buy 3 Get 1 Free DSP sale going on thru October 31st.)

Want to know a little secret?  I actually designed this card last week for my #WorldCardMakingDay class.  As I sat down to write this post, I saw the GDP announced their Color Challenge and since I hadn’t shared this project yet, and the colors just fit this color challenge exactly, well, if the shoe fits….   Sometimes things just fall into place perfectly.

I highly recommend this product suite!  If you can only get 1 bundle or suite from the Holiday catalog, it would be a tough choice between this Merry Little Christmas product suite and the Quilted Christmas product suite.  Both have an awesome stamp set and coordinating framelit dies that can be used for more than just Christmas, and both have a complimentary array of embellishments.  If you missed my earlier posts showing the Quilted Christmas product suite, please click here and here.

Take a few minutes to head over to the Global Design Project to see all the awesome designs.

Here is another look at my card, and the supply list you’ll need to recreate this card yourself.  Click Here to shop my online store for any supplies.  Deck the Halls for the GDP

Pals Blog Hop – Wicked Folds

Welcome to the Pals October 2017 Blog Hop featuring some very “Wicked Folds”. Thank you so much for joining us today. Sit back and enjoy the view while the Stampin’ Pretty Pals treat you with their wickedly folded projects. Whether you’re just starting the hop, or have come from a previous Pal’s blog, you’ll find the line-up toward the end of my post to help you move along.

For my project I chose to do a Double Z-Fold technique.

SweaterDeer Closed

And here it is open:

Sweater Deer Double Z Fold

Watch this video to see the Double Z Fold card in action:

My card is a monochromatic card in Cherry  Cobbler and Whisper White with a touch of silver for some ‘bling’. The buck in the Winter Sweater just makes me laugh every time I see him!  This image is from the Merry Patterns stamp set that is available for FREE during the Merry Patterns Host Promotion thru Oct. 31st.  CLICK HERE to learn more about the Merry Patterns Host Promotion CLICK HERE to download the Merry Patterns Promotion flyer.  Merry Patterns, argyle sweater on deer, tis the season, candles

I thought he would be perfect with a piece of card stock embossed with the Cable Knit  TIEF.  The tiny deer pattern on the DSP from the *Be Merry DSP just repeats the deer theme we have going on.  A tiny sliver of 1/8″ silver ribbon and the Rhinestone Jewels are the perfect accents.

*This Paper is part of the Buy 3 Get 1 Free Designer Series Paper Sale going on now.

Of course, I couldn’t make a card like this without my Stampin’ Trimmer.  Of all the paper trimmers I’ve owned over the years, the Stampin’ Trimmer by Stampin’ Up ! is hands down the best!

A Double Z-Fold card is really easy to make.  Start with your 8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″ piece of card stock scored & folded in half to make a 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ card base.  Then just take the front  flap of the card and fold it in half back onto itself.  You will then have a piece of cardstock, when laid flat, that is scored at 2-1/8″and  4-1/4″.  When scored and folded this will be a Z-fold.

The part of the card that makes the double Z is just another piece of card stock 8-1/2″ scored at 2-1/8″ and 4-1/4″.  The height of this piece should be less than 5-1/2″  but it can be any size.  For this card, the height is 4″.   Score and fold this piece to make another Z.  The trick comes in how you adhere the pieces.  The card base, from left to right, has the 2 small panels and 1 large panel.  The Z-fold piece is adhered to the card base with the 1 large panel on the left and the 2 small panels on the right.

To see another card I made with the Double Z- Fold, click here.

Thank you so much for hopping with the Stampin’ Pretty Pals today. Please take a minute to mark your calendar for our next hop on November 8, 2017. Now hop along using the Blog Hop Line-up below. Don’t forget to leave us a comment.  We love to hear what you have to say!
