Are you a DSP Hoarder?

The Designer Series Paper by Stampin UP! is so pretty, it’s easy to want to hoard it rather than cut it, but…it’s so much better to cut this beautiful paper, make a card and mail it than it is to keep it in a package on the shelf. So, that’s exactly what I did! #LoveItChopIt I’ve actually challenged myself to stop being a DSP Hoarder, so I’ve come up with a brilliant compromise: I buy 2 packages of DSP and I keep one on the shelf and cut and use the other one. Then I don’t feel bad about cutting it and using. I actually feel better because I love the cards I make more than the package sitting on a shelf. And I’m pretty sure the people who receive the cards I make like that too!

The Best Dressed Designer Series Paper has such beautiful designs – florals, stripes and yes shoes, purses, lipstick and parfum bottles! Each sheet is as pretty as the next. When I saw the challenge from the Paper Players “Spring Flowers” I knew I had to break out my Best Dressed DSP and play along! I also just received the new “Label Me Lovely” punch and “Label Me Fancy” punch that were just yearning to be played with! So put them all together and this is what I made:

Best Dressed DSP for the Paper Players PP482

So, what do you think? Better than leaving this beautiful DSP in the package on a shelf, right? I’m glad that the Paper Players Challenge got me cutting my paper and making a pretty birthday card. Be sure to head over to the Paper Players page to see the Design Team cards that inspired me.

So simple and easy: I just layered Petal Pink and Melon Mambo cardstock underneath my DSP. A 1″ strip of Petal Pink cardstock served as a background for the 5/8″ Organdy Striped Ribbon. A layer of punched shapes showcase a simple sentiment from Peaceful Moments stamp set.

Happy Birthday, Susan!

Today is my sister’s birthday, and no I won’t tell you how old she is, except to say she is older than me (and always will be!).  Her favorite color is red, always has been, and she have loved clothes ever since we were young.  So I thought it was only fitting to create her a birthday card that was all dressed up in red.

All Dressed Up!

A red polka dress; it was created in flash!  One piece of Summer Smooches DSP # 125409 and one trip through the Big Shot die-cutting & embossing machine with the Dress Up Framelits die # 130101 and my dress was done.  A belt of Whisper White card stock, and a flower punched from the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack # 118309 fastened with a 1/8″ mini brad # 122941 was all the embellishing this dress needed.  The sentiment was taken from the Create A Cupcake stamp set # 121982.  The stark Real Red and Whisper White color combo creates such a striking contrast that I left things simple and let the bold colors make the statement for me.

February Pals Blog Hop

2013janhop_badge
Thank you for joining us for the February Pals Blog Hop! Today the Stampin’ Pretty Pals are excited to introduce you to the Stampin’ Up! products we LOVE. We hope you find new ideas for using the products you already have – or find new items to add to your wishlist.

You should have just left stop number 9 on the Pals Hop –

If so, you are in the right spot. If you get off track, the full blog lineup below will help you move along from blog to blog so you see all of the amazing creations.

I am so grateful to be a part of this wonderful blog hop this month, with everything life threw at me lately, I wasn’t sure this was going to happen.

Well the blog hop theme this month is our favorite Stampin’ Up! product.  Well, my favorite thing about Stampin’ Up! is not a thing but a who; it is the awesome group of Pals!  The past few weeks have been especially trying for me and the Pals, a group of stampers from all over the country, have been such a source of support for me!  It is so awesome that this group of people whom I’ve never met face-to-face stood alongside of me, encouraging me and praying for me, and helping me.  If you are looking to be part of group of awesome, talented and caring stampers, then let me introduce you to the Pals.  If that sense of belonging, and sharing of talents is what you crave, then I invite you to join us! Email me or leave me a comment and I’ll show you how you can be a part of this awesome group, too!

But since I can’t showcase the Pals, I did make a card to showcase the things I love about Stampin’ Up!  – the coordination of products.  Stamps match the framelits, dies and punches, so you can pop out a perfectly cut image with just one quick motion.  Inks, cardstock, and designer series paper all match perfectly with our embellishments; ribbons, buttons, brads.  Innovative products, on-trend colors and styles, the highest quality.  It all comes together into the perfect product coordination.  And that is what I love about Stampin’ Up!  Not just one thing, but how all things come together so effortlessly, so perfectly and so creatively.
Pinwheel Die,Hearts a Flutter Framelits Dies, birthday cards
This card starts with a background embossed with our new Honeycomb embossing folder (hexagons are so trendy right now, see what I mean!), and has flags stamped from the Hearts a Flutter stamp set, then popped out with the Hearts a Flutter framelits die for a perfect fit (see the coordination?), another die from the Apothecary Accents Framelits die set provides a beautiful shape for the focal point. (Couldn’t do that with scissors!). The Happy Birthday sentiment comes from the “You’re Amazing” stamp set and is colored with Stampin’ Write markers in just the right colors to match the ink pads used to stamp the flag images and matches the DSP from the Summer Smooches collection. And my favorite item from the new Spring Catalog….(drum roll, please)… is the Pinwheels Framelits die. This cutie-patootie pinwheel is a snap to cut out and assemble. And at less than 5 bucks, its’a bargin too! A brad from the Brights Collection is the matching shade of Daffodil Delight and finishes off the whole project.
Yup, perfect product coordination. That’s what I love the most about Stampin’ Up!

Now to see what the other Pals love, hop on over to Diane Roberts at Score At Four and a Quarter stop number 11 on the Pals Blog Hop! Thanks for visiting – and I hope to see you next month!

Happy Birthday, Ann!

A co-worker of mine is celebrating her birthday this week, and in perusing the catalog, the pic on pg. 79 caught my eye and just screamed, “Ann would love this!”  So I whipped out my new paper trimmer, my big shot and my stamps and CASE’D this card.  Here is my version:

Happy Birthday AnnMy lighting is a little wonky and it seems a little washed out on the right side but I hope you can see it well enough.

I used Sahara Sand cardstock for my base, and topped it with Early Espresso Cardstock.  A piece of DSP in Baja Breeze from the Floral District Designer Series Paper pack # 126919 filled in the center.  I ran a little piece of Sahara Sand thru my Big Shot with the Finishing Touches Edgelits # 127010 to create the beautiful lacy border.  The Labels Collections Framelits # 125598 created the beautiful die-cut shape for my main attraction.  Everything Eleanor provided the stamps for the flowers and Perfectly Penned provided the sentiment.  Basic Pearls make great flower centers so after I snipped out my little flower stamped in Calypso Coral, I added a pearl. My leaves were also snipped and are tucked underneath the die cut.  Baja Breeze seam binding #122331 tied in a double bow is the finishing touch.

I just love the soft shade of Baja Blue and the contrast of Early Espresso. Calypso Coral and the Old Olive provided just the right accent colors for this color palette.  The way the seam binding ribbon just flows is lovely.  Everything about this card is feminine and reminds me of Ann.  Happy Birthday, Ann!

Mojo Monday 256

Is it really Thursday already?   Really, where did the week go?  I didn’t have the time to get started on this Monday night but I did start my card on Tuesday but here it Thursday and I just got finished!   It’s been a busy week, that’s for sure!

Well, here is the sketch:  We had a choice of either a round or square card.  http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7C-CnFpELoE/UDq7hP1RIDI/AAAAAAAAJM4/OGjWUTs6tfE/s1600/Mojo256Sketch.gif

I made my card square, it was really fun making a card a little different than the standard 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″ size.

This card is destined for a friend who is having a birthday tomorrow!   Good thing I finally got it finished is all I can say :).
