The Most Important Cards We can Make

As card-makers, we have a hobby that brings joy to ourselves in the process of creating and in sharing our hobby with others, but we also multiply that joy to the world around us as we give or mail our cards to others. While admittedly not the most joyful occasion, I believe the most important cards we can make are sympathy cards. When someone has lost a loved one, the simple act of receiving a card in the mail can make all the difference in the grieving process. Unfortunately, I can speak all too well to what receiving a sympathy card in the mail can mean to a person. Therefore, I always like to have a supply of Sympathy Cards on hand so that I can pop one out in the mail right away. I found myself without any sympathy cards on hand and needed to replenish my supply.

The stamp set is the Forever Fern and I used the coordinating Forever Flourishing Dies. The Sentiment comes from the Peaceful Moments stamp set.

I like to keep sympathy cards simple and I think this card fills that role. With only White Cardstock, and 1 color of ink and Cardstock, you can make a simple but elegant card. In this case I used Misty Moonlight cardstock and ink. I really love this shade of blue; not too light or dark. But I also wanted to make this card in another color so I made in Pretty Peacock as well. Let’s take a look:

Feeling like I needed another color, I kept thinking I wanted something in the purple family, but somehow nothing was speaking to me. But then I remembered Fresh Fig, not really purple but still in that family. So I pulled out my retired stash of cardstock and made this again:

Here’s a photo of the dozen cards that I made:

So which color do you like best? Please leave me a comment with your favorite, or a suggestion for a different color. You know I love hearing from you.

I hope you don’t need to make any Sympathy Cards any time soon, but if you do, use this simple layout and share some love with someone whose heart is hurting. Trust me, it will be the most important card you’ll ever make!

If you need supplies to make this card, please shop my online store here.

Thanks,

Nancy

June Pals Blog Hop

My project features a new stamp set and 3 of the new In-Colors.  The stamp set, Simply Sketched, is a hostess set and I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it!  I chose to use the “With Heartfelt Sympathy” sentiment because of my need for a sympathy card, but the card would work equally as well with either of the 3 sentiments in the set.

While we talking about love at first sight, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the new 2013-2015 In-Colors.  Many times I have to ‘warm up’ to new colors but not this year.  I actually got to see the new colors before they were released when I attended a Stampin’ Up! Regional Conference in April.  I couldn’t wait to get my hands on these new colors and start creating.  I chose to use Baked Brown Sugar for my base layer; I embossed half of this layer with the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder.  Pistachio Pudding and Crisp Cantaloupe blend perfectly to create a soft color palette.  I created the flags using the background stamp from “Oh Hello” and the 1″ square punch.  I scored the Crisp Cantaloupe flag using the Simply Scored Scoring Tool to create some texture and dimension.
