What Inspires You?

Sometimes inspiration comes from the most unexpected places.  I often find things in daily life that remind me of a Stampin’ UP! color, or stamp set, or DSP pattern.  Sometimes it’s a project that just begs for you to recreate it, giving it your own touch, or tweeking it to use whatever stamps, papers, ribbons you have on hand.  This picture came to me in an email from Michaels, the craft store.  Frankie Door Wrap

When I saw this, my first thought was “I can make this into a card!”.  And I did.  Here’s my card version:

Frankie Card What do you think?  Can you guess how I made this?  It is so simple; I started with a Cucumber Crisp 4″ x 4″ card base.  I used scraps of black cardstock to cut strips for the eyebrows and scar.  I used the Owl Builder Punch to create the eyes.  And for the smile?  I used the Balloon Framelits!  It was the first ‘thing’ I saw when I looked at the door wrap in the advertisement above.

I made this with the ladies in my stamp club a few days ago and they loved it.  Quick, easy and super cute.  Who wouldn’t love to receive this card?   My mind is now thinking;  what if I made a Mini Treat Bag from our thinlits, or a baker’s box, or gift bag from Cucumber Crisp cardstock and decorated that?  So many possibilities.

I hope you go into your craft room right now and make YOUR version of  Frankie; whether on a card or a gift package.   Then leave me a comment and tell me what you made.

Stop back to see how I adapted a project that inspired me.

In the meantime, remember Saturday, Oct. 10th is the last day to order your Paper Pumpkin for October.  For every box ordered in October, Stampin’ Up! will donate $1 to BCRF and $2 for every NEW SUBSCRIBER!.  Click here to order yours today.

A new ‘twist’ on an old favorite!

My Stampin’ Up! order just arrived and I couldn’t wait to dive in and play with my new goodies!  First was the Thick Bakers Twine & Buttons In Color Accessory Pack (which I earned for FREE and you can too!) AND the stack of Designer Series Paper in the 2014-2016 In Colors.  So I knew I would be using these things together!  Don’t you just love the color coordination from Stampin’ Up!  So do I.  It makes it so easy.  I decided to just make a monochromatic card, quick & easy, as I needed 2 cards to mail out.  I ‘recycled’ a card layout I used a few weeks ago for one of my classes and added a new twist by using DSP!

IMG_4768[1]

I started with a piece of Tangelo Twist cardstock, cut to 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″, scored & folded in half to create a 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ card base.  Next I trimmed a piece of Whisper White cardstock to 4″ x 5-1/4″ (just a 1/4″ smaller than my card base).  I used the new Butterflies thinlits die to cut out the butterfly, but I made sure to position the die on white layer exactly centered in the upper two-thirds of the paper as I would be using both the die cut image AND the negative space of the paper it was cut from.

Next I used a piece of coordinating Tangelo Twist DSP to position behind the negative butterfly image on my whisper white layer.  I stamped my sentiment on the lower third in Tangelo Twist ink, tied a piece of Tangelo Twist thick bakers twine around this layer and then I used stampin’ dimensionals to pop this layer onto my card base.  TIP:  I like to do this to add some dimension but it also helps so the thick twine doesn’t leave a lump if I glued it flat to the card base.

Lastly I adhered the butterfly back into the negative space; but I only applied glue to the butterfly body, leaving the wings free to flutter in the wind!  My finishing touch was a Tangelo Twist button on the butterfly!  All this took about 10 minutes flat!

Yeah, I loved this so much, I quick made another card in another In Color, Hello Honey.  You can see these two cards here.  IMG_4767[1]

It really looks great in any color.  Matching cardstock, ink, DSP and embellishments made this card come together so quick & easy!

How great is it that the folks over at Colour Me…! Challenge Blog chose Tangelo Twist and a neutral for this weeks color challenge?  Were they watching me create this card?  Did they like this card so much too that they decided to use this color combo too or it is just a coincidence?  You decide.  I’m not sure, but I do know that I’m entering my card in their challenge.  You can head over to the Colour Me…! blog to check out other projects in this color combo.

Don’t forget you can order these products, and any other Stampin’ Up! products directly from me safely & securely online here.  For every $50 in product purchases, you will earn 1 FREE Sale-A-Bration item.  Will you choose the InColors Accessory Pack like I did or something else?  Leave me a comment with your favorite SAB item.

The February Paper Pumpkin Revealed

I got mine in the mail on Wednesday.  Did you get yours yet?  While I did open the box and take a sneak peak, I didn’t open my set to see what was truly inside.  Until tonight.  Hmm, you didn’t open yours yet?   Spoiler Alert – the video shows all.

How fun is that!  An accordion card.  Who wouldn’t feel extra ‘thanked’ upon receiving that?  Someone do something nice for you lately?  For your Mom who always watches the kids for you.  For your co-worker who helped you on that last project.  For the teller at the bank who always has a smile ready for you?  (Ok, I threw that last one in there because I am a bank teller by day). But seriously, you can probably think of at least half a dozen people who you need to thank for something.  And that’s great, because this kit makes 6 cards!

If you aren’t already receiving your monthly dose of creativity, you can order your Paper Pumpkin here.  And I would suggest the 3-month prepaid subscription as it is on sale and you can save $5 thru March 31st.  It also qualifies you for a free Sale-a-Bration item too!.

header_PP_SAB_demo_ENG^2

Get your Paper Pumpkin your way;  You can choose from a month-to-month auto delivery, or a 1, 3, 6 or 12 month prepaid subscription.   You’ll get a new project kit each month containing everything you need to create a finished project including an exclusive stamp set each month.  You can even ‘gift’ the prepaid subscriptions to someone else.  Click here for all the options.

As a Paper Pumpkin subscriber, you can order past kits and refill kits;  see what’s available here.

And every month, you’ll have access to a video like the one above, showing how to assemble your project.  If you are in the Scranton area, you can join me each month for a Paper Pumpkin Party to assemble our projects together while enjoying a evening out making new friends too!

So what are you waiting for?  Order your Paper Pumpkin kit today!  You’ll be glad you did.  (The Sale price of the 3-month Subscription shown below will show up in the shopping cart!)

Don’t Fear the Pom-Poms!

http://alwayshappystampin.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/sweet-as-pie-october-kit.jpg

When I saw the October Paper Pumpkin kit was called “Sweet as Pie”  I couldn’t wait to see it!  When I saw that you had to make your own pom-poms, and all the yarn necessary to do that, I have to admit I was kind of fearful!  But this video takes away all my fear of making Pom-Poms!  In fact, I’m really looking foward to it now!  Watch & see for yourself:

Each little piece of pie is actually a box that you can fill with candy or whatever.

piece of pieAs much I really love the pie, I’m thinking I can’t really ‘serve’ that on Thanksgiving Day;  I usually have about 15 for dinner.  So what’s a girl to do?  Well, I could get an extra refill kit and make 2 pies.   Or, I could use my kit and create something else.  Here are some alternative ideas all made with all the parts included in the Sweet As Pie kit:

A Banner:  Oooh, I could decorate!  Love it!

Banner

A Card:  I love the idea of sending Thanksgiving cards. How totally cool is this?

Or I could create a scrapbook to preserve my Thanksgiving 2014 memories:

Memory Keeping

September Pals Blog Hop

Welcome to the September Pals Blog Hop. This month we are showing off our favorite new products from the new Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog. We hope you enjoy our projects!

You may just be starting the blog hop or may have come from Beth McCullough at Stamping Mom #26 on the Pals Hop. If you get off track at any time, the full lineup below will help you move along from blog to blog so you see all of the amazing creations.

OK, I have to admit, when I first saw the Holiday Catalog,  there were SO MANY that went straight to the top of my MUST HAVE LIST!   I actually had my wish list by page #, rather than item because I knew I needed page 5, and page 41 for example.  And even though I did end up ordering more stamp sets than I planned on, I have actually used them all, and love each & everyone!  (And I have more on the way!  – I just had to have some more stamps & framelits that I didn’t get on the first order!)   But the set I chose to share with you today is Festival of Trees and the coordinating Tree punch (of course, this is a bundle so you’ll save 15% when you purchase them together).

IMG_3823[1]

I used the Trim the Tree DSP Paper Stack to provide the plaid patterned panel behind the focal point.   (I’m loving the Paper Stacks, I’m finding them to be more economical and more user-friendly than our 12×12 pkgs of DSP).

The images in the Festival of Trees are so simple & cute, but I really like the sentiment too.  It’s one of the ‘inside-out” sentiments as I like to call them.  It’s a great way to add a sentiment on the face of the card, and on the inside too.

Here’s the inside:  IMG_3824See what I mean about the sentiment?  A Merry Little Wish…For Lots of Joy at Christmas.  I know so many of you want stamps with a verse for the front and for the inside, so here it is.  And with 5 different trees, the star, the bird, the tinsel, the flower pot, the Festival of Trees stamp set has so much to deliver, esp. for only $15.95.  Bundle it with the coordinating Tree Punch and it’s only $27.95
I used the Project Life Cards & Labels Framelits to cut out the piece of Cherry Cobbler cardstock behind the tree.

I hope you enjoyed my simple, little project!  It was so fun to make, and I know I’ll be making alot of cards with the set in the next few months.

If you would like to order any of the products used, or anything else from Stampin’ Up!, you can click here or on the pics of each item below.

Birthday Wishes

Well, this week I decided to play along with CAS(E) this Sketch.  Participating in color and/or sketch challenges is a great way to stretch your paper crafting skills. ( And it’s also a great foundation if you ever feel your creativity is in a rut as it gives a great starting place!)

When I first saw this sketch, I thought “Hmm.”   I pondered it for a few days and then it came to me.  I knew I needed a masculine birthday card.  The simple color combo of Crumb Cake and Black came to me first.  Then the layout.  All I needed to do now was go down into My Stampin’ Space and find a stamp that would fit inside the circle.  “Endless Birthday Wishes” filled the bill just perfectly!  My answer to the sketch challenge: CAS(E) this Sketch Challenge

I really had fun with this sketch even though it seemed daunting at first!    I settled on gold stars but first tried two other colors for accents. I thought blue, and then thought yellow.   Since my 2014 InColors were already out, I punched a few stars in Lost Lagoon and Hello Honey and tried them on for size.

CAS(E) this sketch - blueCAS(e) this sketch - yellow

While I do like the blue and the yellow, I may have liked a brighter shade of each color, perhaps Marina Mist or Daffodil Delight as I didn’t feel that either color gave enough ‘pop’.  So I finally settled on Gold which I think contrasts nicely with the Crumb Cake & Black combo.

CAS(e) this sketch - gold

So what do YOU think?  Which color do you like the best?  Or would you have an entirely different color?  Please leave me a comment and tell me your thoughts.  Don’t you think this sketch is great for a masculine birthday?

Speaking of birthdays,  I need YOU to help ME celebrate a very important birthday!  I just celebrated a milestone birthday and I’m giving away a birthday gift!  Anyone who places an order with me or thru my on-line store thru Thursday, July 24th will be entered to win a goodie bag filled with a full package of designer series paper, 3 rolls of ribbon and a package of buttons, all in coordinating colors.

So, order anything that is on your wish list and be entered to win.  Need a few ideas?  How about two new Christmas Stamp sets?  Beauty of the Season and Christmas Bliss are both available now.

CM1807BThe long-awaited Blendabilites markers are now available to order!  You definately want to get these markers and take your coloring to a whole new level!

Another Way to use your Pinwheels

I shared with you an ‘out of the box’ way to use some of the pinwheels from the June Paper Pumpkin kit and here’s another really clever way to use them!  This was created by one of the ladies in my  Stamp Club.  Christy Seaman is really crafty and I was so excited to see how she used some of her pinwheels that I asked her if I could share her idea with you.  She agreed so here it is:

IMG_6095Mason Jars are so popular right now and Christy combined this trendy subject material with the Pinwheel she created as well as some pennant flags stamped with the stamps provided in the kit, tied everything up with some sparkly patriotic ribbon, and voila, a gift jar suitable for filling with all sorts of treats.

Pinwheels & Patriotic Pennants

I have to say the June Paper Pumpkin is my favorite kit so far!  I just LOVE the pinwheels!  The kit is so appropriate for our Independence Day decor and just for summer decor too!  The pinwheels, the clear bags for cookies & baked treats, the clips & brads & baker’s twine, the printed straws – there is so much in this kit.  And let’s not forget about the Stamp Set & ink pad.

While I had so much fun making pinwheels (there are 24 pieces of double sided paper cut & punched for pinwheels), I used some of the paper to make pennants too!  I decided to glue a few pinwheels to a grapevine wreath and make another Patriotic decor item too!

I used some burlap ribbon and demin jean ribbon to wrap around the grapevine wreath, then I glued 3 pinwheels on the left.  I cut a square of the DSP into quarters to make 4 triangles, then clipped the corners to make these pennants.   The new Star Framelits dies made easy work of making a few stars from Real Red cardstock and Silver Glimmer Paper.

I made several Pinwheels for myself, shared them with my Stamp Club so all the girls made pinwheels too, this wreath, and I still have supplies left over!

As a subscriber to My Paper Pumpkin, I can buy past Paper Pumpkin kits and refill kits.  If you didn’t get the June Paper Pumpkin kit, and now are feeling left out, and wanting this kit, subscribe to Paper Pumpkin now so you won’t miss the July kit, and so you can order the June kit!  See how easy that is?   You can have it all!
