Humming Along

One of the stamp sets I got during Prize Patrol at OnStage last week is a line art stamp set called “Humming Along”.  Not only does the line art give me the chance to color with my watercolor pencils or Stampin’ Blends, but the fonts in the stamp set are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!  Let’s take a look at the stamp set:

Humming Along

That gorgeous Hibiscus flower!  Right?  Now look what happens when you add some color with our Stampin’ Blends:Humming Along

So simple yet so striking!

How I did it:

I used Old Olive cardstock for the card base, and layered my Whisper White panels with Basic Black.  I used Tuxedo Black Momento Black ink and shaded with Cherry Cobbler (light & dark), Old Olive (light & dark) and Crushed Curry (light & dark) Stampin’ Blends markers.

I saw these flowers all over Florida and even snapped a few pictures of these red beauties: Hibiscus in Orlando FL

Cling Mount Stamps

The Humming Along stamp set is the new “Cling” type stamp set.  Not familiar with Cling?  Click here to learn all about the new Cling stamps from Stampin’ UP1

This stamp set will be available in the 2019 Occasions Catalog which goes live to customers January 3, 2019.  Can’t wait?  I can show you how you can get this stamp set sooner.  Ask me here.

Want another look at my project?  Here is it again: Humming Along

Stampin’ Blends

If you haven’t tried the Stampin’ Blends yet, grab yourself a few.  I started with a few basic color combinations (I choose green, yellow, red/pink to make flowers and added to my color collection from there.  Of course, I got the Color Lifter as well so I could remove my mistakes and add hi-lights.  Order Stampin’ Blends here.

I find coloring with the blends to be therapeutic; it’s so calming and relaxing and just plain fun.  Just start coloring and soon you’ll be just humming along, and then; the end result?  Something to be so proud of!  Your friends and family will oooh and aaaah over your creations for sure!

I love hearing from you.  Please leave me a comment and tell me what you think about the Humming Along stamp set or my project.  Thanks friends!  COMMENT HERE.

It took less than 10 minutes to complete this!

Sometimes things just fall together so perfectly and this was one of those times.  I made this card is less than 10 minutes!  Share What You Love for the Paper Players 399

Not so shabby for a quick card, huh?  Want to know my secret?  I thought you did.  I’ll tell you in one word.  Inspiration!

I got my inspiration from the Paper Players sketch challenge this week.  I saw their sketch and immediately thought that this sketch would be a great way to show off the beautiful paper from the Share What You Love Specialty DSP.  Tranquil Tide and Mint Macaron pair together so beautifully (I’m so glad that Stampin’ Up! brought Mint Macaron back!) and I knew I wanted to use that color combination.  The more I thought about it, I knew I wanted to use the new “Subtle” Textured Impression Embossing Folder and of course, the Lovely Floral TIEF which is in the same product suite as the DSP.  The Share What You Love DSP is so striking with the pearlized finish that a little strip is enough to create some ‘wow’!

Let’s take a look at the sketch: The Paper Players sketch challenge PP399And here’s another look at my card:

Because I immediately ‘saw’ what I wanted to make with this sketch, and knew what colors to use, I was able to get right down to business and cut cardstock to size, emboss, glue, and stamp the sentiment and finish off the card with a couple of coordinating Tranquil Tide pearls from the Share What You Love Artisan  Pearls.  This literally took less than 10 minutes from start to finish!

Can you see the subtle texture in the Tranquil Tide layer?  That is from the new Subtle TIEF.  It looks very much the same as the ‘textured’ cardstock that Stampin’ UP! used to sell, probably about 10 years ago.  As the name implies, it’s a very subtle finish, but enough to give more interest than a plain piece of cardstock.  I think this will be showing up in many more of my projects!

If you want to buy this embossing folder, or any thing else, please feel free to shop my online store, open 24/7 for your shopping pleasure!

Have you ever been inspired by something you’ve seen to create something?  Have you ever just ‘seen’ something that you can go right to your craft room and just make it?  Feel free to leave a comment about a time when this happened to you.

Now before you run off, please make sure to sign up for my mailing list, and I’ll send you my Free Report “The 8 Essential Tools Every Paper Crafter Must Have to Be Successful”.

A Snappy Color Combination!

Whenever my husband goes out of town without me, I always make a card or two to tuck into his suitcase for him to find after he arrives at his destination.    I like to let him know that I’m thinking of him, and missing him when he’s gone.  I like to think that he enjoys these little surprises too!

So I needed to make a card today for him for just such an occasion.  I had so much fun playing with the Paper Players last week; they are such a nice bunch of folks and they always leave comments on my blog posts when I participate in their challenges.  I love when people leave me comments on my blog posts.  It’s almost like getting a little love note in your suitcase when you’re away from home!   Comments make me feel like all the time and effort I put into writing a blog post is worth it.  So, if you are reading this today, please leave me a little love note, I mean comment, at the end of this post.  Thanks!  🙂

Anyway, just as I was heading into My Stampin’ Space to make said card, I got an email from the Paper Players with a color challenge for this week.  Since I had absolutely no idea what I was going to do,  I jumped on the chance to use this snappy color combination as a starting point.  Here’s the color combination:  Paper Players PP397 Color ChallengeI figured if I used Crumb Cake as my main color, with just splashes of Calypso Coral and Lemon Lime Twist, it would pass as more masculine than feminine.  And with the bright colors of Calypso Coral and Lemon Lime Twist, it would need a lot of Crumb Cake to keep it toned down.  Here’s my card:

All of my Smiles for the Paper Players

I used the new “Detailed With Love” stamp set.  I just love the sentiment that says “So many of my Smiles begin with You“.  Perfect!  🙂  I stamped that onto Whisper White cardstock using Calypso Coral ink and cropped it out with an oval framelit from the Layering Oval framelits.  A tiny strip of Lemon Lime Twist cardstock provided just enough ‘pop’ behind it without overtaking center stage.  I was just wide enough to stamp the “I Love You” sentiment in Lemon Lime Twist ink.  A trio of Lemon Lime Twist sequins grab your eye and bring it from the main focal point to the smaller sentiment.  Boy, am I glad I stocked up on those Tutti Frutti self-adhesive sequins!

My background was a piece of 5″ x 3-3/4″ Crumb Cake Cardstock that I ran thru the Big Shot and the Basket Weave TIEF.  This was adhered onto a Crumb Cake cardbase.  That much Crumb Cake might be too much neutral but with these strong colors, it really needs that much to keep the card toned down.

Here’s a close up of all of the colors and elements.

A Snappy Color Combo for the PP397

It would be easy for the strong colors to steal the show.  But the heavily textured background creates enough visual interest to hold its own again the bold colors and the card balances out nicely. I hope you agree.  Here’s another look at the overall card: All of my Smiles for the Paper Players

What do a Kangaroo and A Koala Bear have in common?

What do a Kangaroo and a Koala Bear have in common?  Well for starters, they both begin with the letter “K“.  And they both hail from Australia.   And they both can be found in the new stamp set call “Animal Outing”.  And since they are both Animals, it is a perfect fit for the Paper Players Theme Challenge this week!

Paper Players Theme Challenge Animals PP396

I used the Animal Outing stamp set for my card.  Animal Outing Stamp Set #146600

Apparently the Momma Kangaroo is babysitting for her friends baby as she has a Koala bear in her pouch!

Aren’t they so cute together?  I didn’t expect that!

Here is the card I made:  Animal Outing  I used several of the new colors just introduced to us by Stampin’ UP!.  First of all, I used Gray Granite ink to stamp the Kangaroo image and Gray Granite cardstock for that image panel layer.  Next I used Balmy Blue, Mango Melody, and Granny Apple Green cardstock for the background.  I used Granny Apple Green ink to  stamp up the leaves and I fussy cut them out and popped them behind the main image panel.  For my sentiment, I stamped in Berry Burst ink and cropped a circle of Berry Burst cardstock to layer my punched sentiment.  The card came together quickly, and a few dimensionals behind my layers give me height and dimension for interest and gives the leaves a place to pop out from.

So, what do a Kangaroo and a Koala bear have in common?  They both are perfect for welcoming a new little one into the world!  And they both are just plain cute together!

There are many  exciting coordinating products in the Animal Expedition Suite that coordinate with this stamp set.  You’ll find thinlits dies, designer series paper, and embellishments.  You’ll definitely want to add this to your collection.  And when you bundle the stamp set and thinlits, you’ll save 10%!  Sweet, right?

Simply The Best (and you can get in on the action!)

I am having such a blast on my journey with Stampin’ Up!  I never imaged where this gig would have taken me and the people I have met, and the friends I have made along the way.  I am so blessed by it all!   It has been simply the best!

Simply the Best

I am honored to be part of Mary Fishs’ Stampin’ Pretty Pals.  Mary is the best of the best when it comes to all things Stampin’!  I was drawn to her style: clean, simple, sophisticated and chic!

Mary has been honored to be #1 Globally in Sales, Recruiting and Leadership.  Last fall she achieved the One Million Dollar Mark in Sales! Annual catalog is released.  As a demonstrator, one of the perks I enjoy is an early pre-order.  I was able to get this bundle several weeks ago.  Sweet, right?

This is the card I made for Mary to let her know what I think of her!  ( I mailed the card weeks ago, I sure hope she has received it before seeing this post! )

Varied Vases card for Mary Fish

I think Mary is simply the best!  And her stamp set and punch bundle rock!  Of course the stamp set wasn’t the only new product on this card.  I created an ombre effect background of all our red cardstock, starting from the bottom up, Merry Merlot, Cherry Cobbler, Real Red, Lovely Lipstick and Poppy Parade.  You can see the variation in colors in all of these luscious shades of red.

You will also be able to order the new colors of Merry Merlot, Lovely Lipstick and Poppy Parade on June 1st.

Well, I hope Mary likes her card as much as I like her stamp set and punch.  If you want to join me on this fun journey with Stampin’ Up!, order your $99 Starter Kit today and let’s see where it takes you!  My prediction is that you’ll make new friends, discover new talent and confidence and enjoy the ride!  My Stampin’ UP! journey is simply the best and yours can be too!

Heartfelt Thanks deserve Heartfelt Blooms

This week, someone went out of their way to help me in such a tremendous way and I really wanted to express my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to this gentlemen.  What better way to say ‘thanks‘ than with a handmade card.  And what better way to deliver heartfelt thanks than by using the “Heartfelt Blooms” stamp set.

Heartfelt Thanks to FMS, too!

This sketch by Freshly Made Sketches was the perfect starting point for my card.Freshly Made Sketches #329That large circle shape just begged to be filled with the awesome Heartfelt Blooms stamp.   This is what I came up with:

Heartfelt Thanks using Heartfelt Blooms

I am pleased with the way this card turned out.  You can visit the FMS blog to be inspired with how others interpreted this sketch.

I started with a rectangle of whisper white and stamped the floral image in Bermuda Bay ink in the lower left corner.  I used Dapper Denim ink to stamp the sentiment (also from the Heartfelt Bloom stamp set).Heartfelt BloomsNext I layered this panel with a rectangle of Bermuda Bay card stock and wrapped it with Bermuda Bay ribbon.  I had some of my favorite 1/4″ white cotton ribbon (retired) that I layered over the ribbon to tone it down a bit.  A few of the  Tutti-Frutti adhesive backed sequins in Pool Party were added for a bit of embellishment.  Then that whole layer was adhered using Stampin’ Dimensionals onto a Dapper Denim card base.   Quick and Easy!  But the end result makes it look like I spent a lot of time on this card, thanks to the awesome Heartfelt Bloom stamp set.

I’m loving Lots of Lavender

Ever since I got my order with the new products from the  2018 Occasions catalog and Sale-A-Bration catalogs, I’ve had a hard time putting down the Lots of Lavender stamp set.  So much so, that I haven’t even opened up most of the other stamp sets I ordered.  YIKES, right?  I’m just loving Lots of Lavender so much – it’s so versatile.

To see some of the other projects I’ve created with this set, click here and here, or just go to my Pinterest Board Sale-A-Bration 2018.

So when the TicTacToe Challenge posted a new challenge and one of the squares was floral, guess what I chose?  Yup, that’s right – Lots of Lavender.  No surprise there, right?  So here is the challenge:

TicTacToeChallenge #030

And here is my submission, Right Column Down (Floral, No Sentiment, Purple).

Lots of Lavender, TTTC030, purple, floral, Nancy Gleason, My Stampin Space, Sale-A-Bration 2018

The beauty of this stamped image, accented by a bow of Tinsel Trim, speaks for itself – it doesn’t need a sentiment.  Shades of purple are used with just a touch of blue, green & pink.

Come back tomorrow to find out how to make this project yourself – I’ll be posting a project tutorial.

Lots of Lavender

Lots of Lavender is a new stamp set that you can earn for FREE as a Level 1 Reward during Sale-A-Bration. What is Sale-A-Bration?  And How can YOU get this stamp set for free?  I’m glad you asked!  Click here to know everything you ever wanted to know about Sale-A-Bration.

Now that you know what Sale-A-Bration is, you’ll want to add Lots of Lavender to the top of your must have list.

I needed to make some Thank You cards and Birthday cards and thought this would be a good image to use for either.  I wanted to experiment using this 2-step stamp set so I started out by stamping on a scrap of Whisper White cardstock using the lavender image with Versamark ink and then heat embossing with Gold Embossing Powder.  I used my Blender Pen to fill in color from my ink pads using Pear Pizzaz, Perfect Plum and Pool Party.  I was so pleased with this, that I knew I had to make this focal point of a card!  I quickly layered this piece onto coordinating Perfect Plum cardstock.  Lightbulb moment!  I just knew the sketch from the Freshly Made Sketch challenge was JUST PERFECT for this image.  I quickly whipped out some Washi Tape in Perfect Plum (retired)  and I had a perfect sketch challenge entry.

Since I need to make some birthday cards and thank you cards so I decided to add a sentiment, and here is my final result:

Lots of Lavendar, Happy Birthday, Nancy Gleason, My Stampin Space, Rose Wonder, Sale-A-Bration 2018, floral, gold embossing, blender pen, washi tape

Here is the 2nd card I made.  There’s just a subtle difference with the sentiments, but which do you like better?

Lots of Lavendar, Happy Birthday, Nancy Gleason, My Stampin Space, Beautiful Bouquet, Sale-A-Bration 2018, floral, gold embossing, blender pen, washi tape

Take a look at the sketch that was my inspiration for this card:

Freshly Made Sketch Challenge

You can view the Freshly Made Sketches line up here.

Here’s an up-close of the water-coloring technique I did with the floral design.

So simple with the Blender Pens yet it has such a “WOW” factor!  I strongly encourage you to get Blender Pens if you haven’t tried them yet.  They are also a good stepping stone to using the Stampin’ Blends markers too.  If you love coloring, the Blender Pens and Stampin’ Blends will transport you to coloring heaven!  Both are so easy and fun to use but give different results.

You can earn the Lots of Lavender as a Level 1 Sale-A-Bration FREE item (with a qualifying $50 purchase before tax & shipping).  Be sure that you place your orders in $50 increments so can earn a FREE item.  You can shop on line here.

Decisions, Decisions!

My friend Steve recently asked me to make a card for him to give to someone who would celebrating their 70th birthday.  Of course, I was delighted and took this request very seriously.  Decisions, Decisions… which stamp set to use?  Well, it is for a 70th birthday so of course the “Number of Years” stamp set was a given.

Making masculine cards is very easy, in theory.  Certain color combinations lend themselves to being masculine, especially if you add a neutral such as grey, black or brown, and avoid pinks and purples.  Simple geometric patterns (stripes, squares, circles, etc.) and avoid florals, lace and ribbons.  Easy so far, right?

This is the card I created:  Happy 70th birthday

Ok, so this follows all my masculine rules, but… I felt like it just needed something more since it is such a milestone birthday.  Decisions, Decisions.  I decided on balloons, simple, gender neutral and very festive.  My color combination is gray, blue and white.  I wanted to use these colors but also add something with a little more pop.  I thought about adding green, or orange, or red, but….decisions, decisions!

I ultimately added some silver glimmer paper.  It added some pop, but without adding another color to my simple, masculine color combination.

Happy 70th Birthday with Balloons

What do you think?  Do you like the addition of the balloons?  I like the plain card, but I like the stepped up version even more.  Now leave me a comment and tell me which one you like best.

I’m really pleased with the way  ‘happy’ layered over the 70 turned out.  Do you like that too?

Let me share how I created this card:

A card base of Whisper White, then a layer of Pacific Point cardstock.  A piece of Neutrals DSP in silver & white diagonal stripes.  2 layers of circles in Pacific Point and Whisper White again, and the numbers die cut in Pacific Point using the Large Numbers Framelits dies.  The little flag banner is part of the Large Numbers Framelits dies and the ‘th’ is part of the “Number of Years” stamp set .

The Happy is from the Happy Birthday Thinlits.  I used my Paper Snips to cut the Happy apart from Birthday.  I cut another “Happy” from Thick Whisper White cardstock  and then glued both of those together.  This raised up the word so when I layered it over the numbers it appears to be floating over it.

The balloons were punched out using the Balloon Bouquet punch using Pacific Point DSP and Silver Glimmer Paper.  A simple piece of Bakers Twine was used for the balloon strings.

Here is the card with the coordinating envelope.Happy 70th Birthday card with envelope

Let me tell what my friend Steve said when he got home and saw the card that I left for him.  “Nancy thank you for the card.  It is perfect 🙂  No doubt in my mind he will love it.  You have a gift Nancy, thank you for sharing it”

I am very flattered by his compliment!  I hope that you like this card as well.  Please leave me a comment; I’d love to hear what you have to say!

White Christmas

I’m dreaming of a White Christmas… famous song lyrics.  Go ahead, you can sing if you want to.  My project today puts a spunky twist on the song lyrics.  The stamp set “Half Full”, one of my favorite stamp sets in the 2017 Holiday Catalog, has a whimsical inside/outside sentiment that I used for this project.  Let’s take a look:

White Christmas Front using Half Full

And for the inside….. (drum roll please!)

White Christmas inside

I know you just chuckled!  I know I did when I first saw this stamp set!  And I just knew I had to have it.  I made this card with the ladies in my “Wine Down Wednesday” Stampin’ Class (of course we made wine-themed cards on Wine Down Wednesday!) and they just loved it. Half FullAnd you’ll notice that I used a strip of the Merry Music Designer Series Paper as a nod to the song lyrics… I’m dreaming of a white Christmas….  I know;  I’ve been humming this tune for several days now!

A little bit of coloring with the blender pen adds the perfect amount of color to this project.  Momento Ink is my ink of choice when filling in color with the Blender Pen.

I’ve used this stamp set in other classes; you can see those projects here and here.  This is such a versatile and fun stamp set; and if you are considering getting this stamp set, I hope you will.  It’s a lot of fun.  You can click here to go to my online store or click on any of the items below.

Swirly Snowflakes

The stamp set called “Snowflake Sentiments” and the coordinating Swirly Snowflakes Thinlits dies caught my eye the first trip thru the 2017 Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog and went straight to my ‘must have’ list.  The intricate snowflake cut out and the lacy border, along with the font style and basic greetings, were too much for me to pass up.  Add to that the fact that you can bundle & save, and I was hooked!

The Tic Tac Toe Challenge this week provided just the right excuse for me to take these out and play!  Thanks #TTTC021!  So here it is:

Swirly Snowflakes for the #TTTC021

This card is delicate and intricate; it look like you spent HOURS on this card, but the Big Shot and the dies do all the work for you!

Here’s how I made it:

The lace work behind the snowflakes was cropped from Dapper Denim card stock and the snowflakes were cropped from Whisper White  cardstock.  Both used the Swirly Snowflakes Thinlits dies.   I do recommend using the Precision Base Plate and the Big Shot Die Brush to get a good clean cut and to remove all the parts & dots.

Dapper Denim ink was used to stamp the sentiment on Soft Sky cardstock and was cropped using the Layering Oval Framelits dies.  A piece of silver Mini Tinsel Trim was added, as well as Rhinestone Jewels on the center of each snowflake.  I just love how Soft Sky and Dapper Denim pair together and the silver adds just the right touch for a silvery, snowy color combination!

I popped up the entire snowflake panels on Stampin’ Dimensionals before adding it to my Soft Sky card base.   A  few pieces of washi tape keep the Tinsel Trim in place as well.   You can see that here:

Stampin’ Dimensionals do a few things; they raise the cardstock enough to allow for the thickness of the tinsel trim to ride underneath without adding bulk to the card, and they give an added dimension to the card by having that panel raised.

Here is the Tic Tac Toe Challenge for this week:

I chose the Diagonal Row from the bottom left to the top right, using die cut and oval. For the free I chose to add some bling.

I knew I wanted these intricate swirly snowflake dies for the die cut and the sentiments from the Snowflake Sentiments pair so nicely with the oval framelits so my card fell together so easily and perfectly for this row.  You can see my card again here:

Today we Celebrate!

Today we celebrate our Wedding Anniversary!  29 years ago today we said “I do” and I’ve been doing it ever since!  Loving my husband, that is.  Through good times and hard times, the one thing I can always count on is my husband.  He is my rock, my support, my voice of reason when I need advice, the one I laugh with, cry with and do life with.

I wanted to make a card that conveyed that, but yet keep it simple and masculine.  I think I nailed it because when he opened up the envelope, he exclaimed “I like this!”

So here it is:29th Anniversary

My basic layout was inspired by Freshly Made Sketches #309.   Freshly Made Sketches #309A Crumb Cake  card base layered with a sheet of whitewashed oak from the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper that was punched with the heart framelit from the Mini Treat Bag Thinlit dies.  A piece of Real Red Cardstock was glued in behind that opening.   Another heart was punched using the Sweetheart punch and a different  sheet of woodgrain paper.  A piece of Crumb Cake was stamped in Early Espresso ink with the Happy Anniversary sentiment from Beautiful Bouquet stamp set.

Easy, quick and masculine enough.  My husband has been a cabinet maker his whole life so I knew he would appreciate the woodgrain paper.  Now he is the Executive Director at the Keystone Mission which serves the area’s homeless and needy population.  The other night, the Keystone Mission (and many Rescue Missions across the country) held a Red Carpet Event for the movie “Same Kind of Different As Me”  which tells the true story of a millionaire art dealer and his friendship with a homeless man. Here is a picture of us as we walked the red carpet: On The Red Carpet for Same Kind Of Different as Me

Now you can see why he’s so easy to love!  He’s easy on the eyes! On a more serious  tone, I would highly recommend going to see that movie “Same Kind of Different As Me”, and bring some tissues.

Well, I hope you like my card, and the sketch that inspired it!  Go along to Freshly Made Sketches blog to see all the projects made with that sketch.
